Roller Blinds - An Investment on Beauty, Durability and Function

Over the summers, traditional Japanese homes replace their wooden-framed washi windows and doors with Japanese bamboo roller blinds called shoji. The roller blinds allow cool air into the dojo and also drive insects out of the house. Despite being a rather old-fashioned home accessory, a lot of Japanese folks still use them because of the amazing craftsmanship that goes into them as well as their simple beauty that complements the traditional design of most Japanese homes.

Roller blinds are not purely for traditional houses and they are not always made with bamboo. These days, they can be made with high-quality fabrics or even tarps with different designs, providing varying levels of protection from light and heat. They come in different colors so it’s easy to work them into the overall interior design of any room.

It’s important to point out as well that they’re not difficult to install. Most of the time, you would just need a place where you can securely hang them - you can save money by installing them yourself instead of hiring professionals. Just make sure that your measurements are correct; otherwise, you’ll have lopsided covering for your doors and windows, and this can easily compromise the quality of your blinds. Proper installation increases the durability of your roller blinds and compared to other types, they hold their shape well no matter how strong the wind or how careless the user.

They are also quite easy to clean; you can just use a vacuum or a brush to rid them of dust and other possible build-up. Spot cleaning is easier as well since a lot of these blinds are made from fabric. Spraying the dirty area with water mixed with a bit of cleanser and scrubbing with a small brush (like a toothbrush) typically does the trick. If they become incredibly filthy, most blinds manufacturers advise soaking the whole thing in soapy water to loosen the ingrained dirt, wiping it afterwards with a clean cloth or sponge, and then letting it air dry. As for bamboo roller blinds, spraying them with water and wiping them with a clean cloth instantly removes dirt. Most Japanese people, when they’re done with the blinds, give them a thorough cleaning by hosing them down with water and soap, air-drying them before storing them away.

These blinds are also very durable, and you will likely use them for a really long time especially if you choose a classic color or pattern. Roller blinds make use of a seamless operating system that functions like new even after many years. The fabrics are also treated with special UV protection that ensures color quality, thickness, and elasticity. For bamboo blinds, everybody knows that bamboo does not break easily, it’s sturdy and pliant; the fibers hold the shape of every rod even if the insides have been bent.
