Ruined Day Because Of Blocked Drains? Sydney Tips To Avoid Pipe Jams

You lazily get out of bed, eyes half shut and arms stretched out before you as you feel your way towards the bathroom. You may be half asleep, but thanks to years of doing the same thing every morning and a well-established muscle memory, you can easily finish your bathroom rituals even if you’re not actively thinking of what you’re doing. And so you continue on your way, your feet guiding you blindly towards the toilet. You sit on your throne, do your business as you would on any other day, and then you get off your seat and flush. As you stand, drops of water fall around your feet. These are soon followed by a steady stream of liquid. You stand there idly for a minute, your mind processing this new sensation when suddenly, you snap awake with the realization that your toilet is blocked.

Good morning! There is now a flood in your bathroom.

Getting your bathroom flooded by a blocked toilet is possibly one of the worst ways to wake up in the morning. Your usual routine is disrupted, and when that happens, the rest of your day is affected. However, you don’t have to suffer getting your day ruined by blocked drains; Sydney plumbing experts can help you prevent drainage problems by doing a few simple things. After all, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, right?

The first and perhaps most important thing that every homeowner should do to avoid a clogged drain is to regularly check if the drains are running freely. Make it a habit to look at how your plumbing is working and make a mental note of whether it’s taking longer than usual for water to drain in your sink, tub, or toilet.

Another very important practice to prevent obstruction of your plumbing is by not throwing objects into it. This includes not discarding peels or used cooking oils and grease into your kitchen sink (even if you have a disposal that cuts peels to pieces), and not flushing diapers or baby wipes down the toilet. You should also avoid pouring chemicals down your drain. Certain chemicals may solidify within pipes while others can actually rot the pipes themselves. You never know which ones are bad for your drains, so it’s better to avoid throwing anything into the drain until you are very sure.

Lastly, you should regularly maintain your drains by performing hot water rinsing. All you have to do is pour a generous amount of hot water down your drain weekly to dissolve caked-on build-ups of grease, chemicals, and hair.

If you will think about it, these tips do not require so much effort. Just look, don’t throw, and pour hot water. With a little persistence you can be sure that you will not experience blocked drains. Sydney plumbers will always be around to help you, but you will hardly ever need one if you follow these tips. You will hardly ever have a bad day because of a clogged toilet, too.
