When searching
for the right blinds, aesthetics is
only one factor that you should consider. Most of us often disregard other
things like the type of material, the operating mechanism, insulation and the
benefits that each type of blind could offer. To help you understand them a
little more, here is a list of the basic types of blinds that you could buy in
the market:
Roman blinds
This type of
blinds is made up of a single cloth that is folded in segments. A cord can then
be pulled to fold each segment according to your preferred length. This offers
great designs and effective insulation within your home as it blocks most of
the sunlight coming in. However, the controlling mechanism isn’t as versatile
as that of other more mechanical blinds.
Venetian blinds
This type is
composed of long rectangular pieces of wood or plastic called slats. Each slat
is connected to one another by cord or cloth. The spaces between each slat can
be adjusted by turning each segment forward or backward using a rotating
mechanism. You may control the size of the gap between each slat to block out
as much sunlight as you want.
Honeycomb blinds
When you look at
it on each side extended, you’d see that they look like honeycombs, thus the
name implies. This type of covering blocks sunlight effectively and offers
superb insulation because of the air pockets present within each segment. Similar
to the roman blinds, you get a long continuous shade with very effective
insulation and the controlling mechanism of venetian blinds.
Roller blinds
This window
blind is also made of a single cloth cover making it a lot similar to roman
blinds. The only difference is that it doesn’t have folded segments. Instead,
it’s just a continuous soft cloth that “rolls” according to your preferred
length. The controlling mechanism may be a simple cord or an automated one.
Vertical blinds
Imagine venetian
blinds that have longer folding segments and arrange them vertically. This is
what vertical blinds look like. They offer almost the same effect and
insulation as the venetian blinds. However, these window covers look great both
on small windows and larger ones because of its similarities with suspended
curtains.
Panel glide blinds
Just like
vertical blinds, you have a vertical arrangement with this type. But unlike the
plastic segments, you have wider slats made up of cloth. They provide adequate
sunlight blockage and the controlling mechanism is probably the most convenient
among others because of the neatly stacked slats that eliminate the need for chains
and long cords.
